Materials

1.The paintings are predominantly painted on wood.  I have them custom made here in asheville by a woodworker John Hunter.  The best quality surface made to order.  After the panels are delivered to my studio the primer is applied by hand. Once the paintings are complete  I select a personally curated frame to accompany the painting.  Either hand made by the same woodworker and installed or selected molding from a local frame shop and professionally installed. 

2. I like the immediate color of pigment sticks. Pigment sticks are the primary painting technique in this newest work. When I was a kid I loved a new big box of crayons.  Pigment sticks have a similar thrill.  

3. Oil paint is made of real material: metal, soil , powdered shell, it is real and not plastic like acrylics.  Light filters through oil and creates  depth and interest.
