Morning Reflection can be many things for many people. Quiet time with their God, a time to get the day started or taking a walk out of doors. This painting a reflection on that time of day.
How do you know where to start? Ahhhhh, yes one of the most frequently asked questions in my studio by visitors. With my work, the stepping off point is nature and as many know—water in particular. But for someone else it could be anything from color, light, pattern, form, the human figure, animals, etc. I may begin with bold marks or layers of paint. Approaching the blank canvas can be a challenge and getting something down with out pre-conceived notions is my biggest stumbling block.
But as things evolve I find that .........The Sea Speaks Winter is a time for reflecting, cocooning, and hibernating. Much of nature is going through this cycle. Here is Meditation 2 - take a look.
Is 58:11 The Lord will guide you always...you will be like a well watered garden.
This newly created painting reminded me of the above scripture. Then after walking parts of California coastline several weeks ago and reflecting on my work at this time I got a real sense of affirmation. A seascape or landscape can be captured abstractly. As in this case through movement, color and energy. Isn't creativity wonderful - we can interpret the world around us in so many ways. An underpainting is the way I begin every painting. This is one of the first decisions I make. In this painting the upper layers need the warmer colors in the underpainting.
